Artist's Comments

My second stained glass piece.

I've found that making windows is not unlike composing a sonnet. There are very rigid guidelines which one must follow, but within the boundaries, one has supreme creative control.

materials: various bits of glass, silver nitrate stain, copper foil, sauter, black patina
time to make: seven days

This is great! So you used copper foil over lead?

Thanks for the comment. I did use copper foil, but then sautered the pieces together using an non-lead alloy (the studio I was working in did not allow the use of lead) and then achieved the color you see through the use of a patina that darkened the sautering job from a bright silver. Because of the relatively small size of the piece, I did not need the strength of lead anyway.

Ah i see, well its a great design and it looks really good, im currently working on a big circular design exept I am using lead.
